¿AAA?
As I am sure astute readers have determined, yesterday's post included some photos of fireworks. Those were captured (more or less - and any faults in the technical aspects of the photos should be attributed to my absolute incompetence as opposed to any deficiencies in the equipment) as we walked home and were surprised by the fireworks display. We learned today that they were part of a concert/exhibition of Guatemalan customs in conjunction with a big business meeting that is happening. Tonight, we stumbled on another demonstration of Guatemalan culture ostensibly for the same group. We were walking around, which we do a lot of, and Senior Member and I saw some people making a sawdust carpet (don't worry, photos will help explain) which is a traditional thing done during Semana Santa or Holy Week (must share Bill Hicks' commentary on Easter). During Semana Santa, the carpets are made during the night and in the morning, processions from churches walk through them. Senior Member and I were fortunate to be in Antigua a 'few' (okay more like 20) years ago to witness this incredible event and were excited to see the carpets being made again as a demonstration. Junior Member was slightly intrigued. Here is what it looked like with one carpet completed and a second in the final stages. They are using colored sawdust and templates:
I am guessing this is the reason for the word Bunge. We went back at 7 PM when the traditional music and dancing began:
So, I have to go out of order here and show you another dance where four children came out representing monkeys and fought/danced with the devil:
But the best part, as voted on by Junior Member, was when a person came out representing a bull. And as you know, the best representations of bulls contain fireworks:
Yes, I agree, poor quality pictures don't do it justice so thankfully we have some poor quality video:
I think they have a different relationship with liability here. ¿Ambulancia Abogado Alguien?
