So a guy walks into a church...

Given some of the musical accompaniment (optional of course for our dedicated readership) to yesterday's post, let's see if we can focus today on something a little purer. There are a lot of churches in Antigua and this one is La Merced. Here is the front of the church and details:

To the right of the main entrance to the church is the entrance to cloisters and garden which includes a big fountain called the Fuente de Pescado because the pools were used by the Mercedarian brothers to breed fish (according to The Rough Guide to Guatemala).



Let's go inside! First, the doors:



Look up. What is that? A brief history of the church and with and English translation no less! Gosh, those Mercedarians are the best!

Whew! That was exhausting! Glad I went with the Universal Life Church all those years ago (founded by the esteemed Reverend Hensley from Western North Carolina).
